| This page is divided into four sections. The Home page, the Resume page, the Secrets page, and the About Me page. The Home page just contains random stuff about the site and some minor details about Rei. The Resume page, obviously, is for those of you interested in hiring Rei to help out doing whatever. (Make sure you get Gendo's okay first. She won't work without it.) The Secrets page contains trivia and little known facts about Rei, as well as some of the many theories (Since nothing in Evangelion is ever just said, only vaguely implied) about Rei. The About Me page contains information about me, the Web Master. It also contains some useful links to Evangelion pages of note, so it's not just there to stroke my little ego. To use one of the links, just move your cursor over one of the buttons on the page, and the name of the page should appear. Then just click to go to the page. |
Rei Ayanami
Rei Ayanami, for reasons as mysterious as she is in the show, is one of the most popular animated characters of all time. Neon Genesis Evangelion has been released three times, with the normal version, the extended 2 disk version entitled Neon Genesis Evangelion: Resurrection, and the Platinum edition. It has inspired two movies, Death and Rebirth, and End of Evangelion. Even as I type this, an Evangelion live action movie is in the works. (Seriously. Check the links.) Through it all, Rei has flourished, and even become something of a mascot for Evangelion. Her popularity is actually quite surprising, when you consider her personality.
Rei is introverted to the point of being mentally unstable, ignoring people even when the talk directly to her, and almost never initiating a conversation unless absolutely necessary. She seems constantly apathetic, as is shown by the state of her apartment, which she never cleans. (Really. The bandages from episode one are still laying around until Shinji picks them up somewhere around episode seventeen or eighteen.) She blindly obeys any command given to her without complaining, and goes so far as to openly say that she would commit suicide if Commander Ikari ordered it. (She tries in episode 6. Fortunately, Shinji wastes the Angel before it can fry Unit 00.) Her passive personality leads to problems when dealing with other people, especially the extroverted Asuka. She has very little experience in the world, and when confronted with a situation outside her area of knowledge, she usually just does nothing. (An exception occurs during episode six, when Shinji is crying with relief to find Rei is still alive after her little stunt to save him. Rei, completely bewildered, says, “I’m sorry. I don't know what to do or say at a time like this.") Rei never raises her voice, always speaking in a monotone, and never really seems surprised about anything. (Exception: Rei will scream when in pain, as is shown in episode eighteen, when her Eva's arm is blown off.) Rei is supremely loyal to Gendo, and her normally frigid exterior cracks when Shinji openly accuses Gendo or betraying him. She promptly slaps him. Rei also seem somewhat attached to Shinji toward the end of the series. When he is trapped in the Durak Sea, Asuka flippantly remarks that it was his own fault. Rei then accuses her of only piloting Eva for the praise of others, a very uncharacteristic remark from Rei, since it really was Shinji's fault, and Rei probably knew it.
Despite these traits, Rei remains the most popular character in Evangelion. She has even earned the titles "The Fastest Route to a Sold Out Sign" and "The Premium Girl." The amount of Rei pictures (and not all of a decent nature, Rei is extremely popular in hentai, or animated porn) on the Web are simply staggering. So here's to the Blue Haired Harbinger of Doom. Cheers, Rei, where ever you are. |
| Sadly, some people do not share my high opinions of Rei. Some people (the smart ones) do. Some people might even think I didn't give Rei enough credit! (Some people also might think that I have no idea how to write a web page, but there you go.) If you happen to be one of those people, and feel the need to send me a nice, crispy flame, my e-mail is provided. If you actually think I did a good job, my e-mail will still be there. I read all my e-mails, but don't expect me to answer the flames. So go ahead and:
E-Mail Me! For those of you who have the desire to send Rei a letter, just click on the link below. Feel free to send her fan mail, questions, or hate mail if you really want to. But remember, she doesn't say much. Other Eva characters and I may also put their two bits in. Just put Dear Rei at the top of the letter, and I'll give it to her. (Not that she ever answers her mail.) Regardless, feel free to:
E-mail Rei! |
